Last Blog This Year!

I am a bit sad that this will be the last blog that I write for this class this year. Sometimes it has been a struggle to fit the blogs into my week but it really makes the members of the class interactive with one another. I like the blogs where people talk about their everyday happenings or when they get on to vent. My take on blogs when they first started to get popular on the Internet was, “who really cares?” That is probably a bad outlook but I thought it because it seemed like it was hard to know what the truth was through written words. People could say anything and it could not be true. But the truth of it is that it doesn’t really matter anyway. A blog is for the writer more that it is for the reader. Blogging has helped my writing and how I relate to others. I am happy I won’t have to blog this summer but I will miss some of the funny news articles and stories that we have shared together. It feels good to complete a year of college. It goes by so fast that I bet graduation will be just around the corner for all of us.
On another note I would like to share some of my summertime plans and ideas with all of you. Canoeing is what I have been waiting for all winter. One of my friends has planned a trip next weekend and I hope that I have enough money and time to go. I think that I will if the river is down enough but I am not sure that it will be.
Memorial Day weekend is when I wanted to go canoeing but I am afraid there will be to many people. That weekend is my birthday and I am finally getting a pair of boots from PFI where my sister works. She can get me a 20% discount because I am family and I already have an idea of which ones I want. I would love a pair that was five hundred dollars but somehow I am not sure that I will be that lucky for my birthday. But you never know, I didn’t think I was going to get a nice new car but I did. (haha.) All I really want for my birthday though is to go out to eat with my Dad, Sister, and Seth. I am really looking forward to the trip to Springfield that weekend. I am not sure what Seth has up his sleeve but I’m sure it will be wonderful as usual! Well Farewell fellow students!!! Have an awesome summer!!!

Final blog week

It is so hot outside! I cannot complain though, this weather is what I have been looking forward to all summer. It is nice to be able to go outside and lie in the sun and enjoy the fresh air. My dad and my boyfriend are both putting off turning on the air conditioning but I think the ninety-degree weather may break them. I have good news about the job at the Wild Plum. I got it! After I took up my three dishes they tasted them and said I was hired. Now I just have to figure out how much it costs to make a 9x13 pan and double that price and that is what I get paid. The owner is really nice and understands how culturally restrained Lamar is in the food dept. It is all fast food and fried food. Even the Mexican restaurant in Lamar is super greasy. They cook everything in lard. People do not realize how bad that kind of food is for you. It may be kind of a struggle to get Lamar to give a healthy restaurant a chance but I honestly think that healthy food tastes better. Yes, like everyone I have a craving for pre-packaged unhealthy food but I always notice how bad I feel after I eat food like that. If there is too much grease on food it is screaming heartburn and indigestion. Healthy food really does make you feel better. I am hoping that when they start cooking in the evenings that I will get enough hours to just work there. Until then it looks like I have two jobs. But I really love to cook and even if the restaurant doesn’t take off I will still have a good reference and some experience to put on my resume.
I was supposed to go to Joplin today to turn in my books and register for classes next year but a lack of funds has forced me to change my appointment. My idea for classes since MSSU does not have a culinary dept or a meteorology dept I will probably take some small business classes next year. Maybe someday if the economy looks up I would be able to start my own business. That idea seems the most pleasing to me. Nobody likes having a boss tell them what to do and regulate their schedule so why not just cut out the middleman and be the boss. That is my idea anyway. I will be successful if I try hard enough and so far so good!

Truck wreck!

Yesterday was a crazy day! At about one thirty my dad got a phone call saying that my uncle Jeff had wrecked his semi-truck. I’m sure that some of you probably saw it on the news last night. It was where 96 and 43 intersect and the driver of the car failed to yield. Jeff had no choice but to slam on his brakes to try and stop. The problem was that his truck had a load of corn in it and all of that weight is hard to stop. Jeff said that when his truck hit their car from the back it spun around like a top. He went off of the road and then his truck fell over on to the drivers side. He said that he had to roll down the passenger window to crawl out. He was in now way responsible for the collision. When my grandmother got there she said that three of the four passengers had been taken to the hospital already. They then came for the fourth passenger. Jeff was just a little shook up and sore from the wreck but afterwards they had the problem of how to get the truck back in its upright position. Grandma said last night that she thought that they hadn’t even lost a bucket of the corn. A truck came and sucked out all of the corn from the trailer and put it in another truck. They then had two big wreckers come out and pull the truck upright. Jeff then drove the other loaded truck to Arkansas like he had planned.
That would have to take a lot of determination to wreck your truck and then continue driving one that same day. I know that after my wreck I didn’t want to drive for a little bit afterward. I couldn’t imagine lying over a huge truck like that. The force would have to be extraordinary. This has been a bad year for the family and car accident. It makes me worry about the rest of the family because it just shows how you can be doing nothing wrong at all and have a horrible accident.

Blog of the week!

There is finally a door that has come open for me that was quite unexpected. I have wanted a job in a kitchen as a cook for a long time and now that opportunity is right here in Lamar. A new restaurant has opened up just off the square. It is a café that serves healthy, chemical free food. I have been thinking for a couple of weeks, since I heard about it that I would go in and try to promote myself to the manager. Yesterday I did just this and am going to be the new cook for this restaurant. I am going to be doing catering and hopefully taking some of the stress off of the woman that opened it. She said that the menu is open to revision and that the employees that work there are expected to bring in ideas for the new menu. I have three or four that I think are worthy to be on their menu. My first one is giant shells stuffed with cream cheese and herbs, and then it is smothered in a homemade tomato sauce and topped off with cheese.
My second recipe is Taboli, which is a Greek salad, made of wheat, tomato, cucumber, feta cheese and spices. My third is my special red skin mashed potatoes with fresh chives, different cheeses and spices. I am considering taking in a recipe that my dad taught me and that we make every Christmas and it is made with black walnuts and chocolate. There is more to it than that but I can’t give it away. It is a really old family recipe. It makes a type of truffle.
I am so happy that I finally feel like I am making progress with my future. It is really depressing working a job that you know is nothing more than to just get you buy. On other good news my cold is going away and the sun is finally shining. My birthday is coming up this month and I am excited to say that my sister is going to hook me up with a sweet pair of cowboy boots at her job at PFI in Springfield. I have never had a pair of cowboy boots but I think it is about time to try a pair.

blog two complete!

It is so hard for me to stay ahead in school now. I am so busy with work all the time and just being sick and tired all the time I’m struggling everywhere. I have like two tests I need to take and a paper to write and more homework. I just don’t know how I am going to keep up. Hopefully I can make passing grades to get me by this semester and try to get my job to work more around my school. I just feel so behind. And it sucks because I never used to be behind. It seems like my crap run of luck lately is taking its toll on work and school. But things always get better. I have to go to court on Friday with my dad next week because my mom cannot keep her hands off of my dad’s money. Ridiculous. I don’t even want to be in the middle of this. I know dad is going to get his ass handed to him and his wallet emptied but with the lawyers in this town they just help steal it. So much stress! Never this much stress before! It really rings true what dad says, “Don’t be in a hurry to grow up.” No kidding! I don’t understand how he does it. He works for 12 hour shifts in a freezer loading cheese for goodness sakes. It would get so cold and your body would have to be so sore from repetitively throwing that many boxes of cheese. It makes me look like a big wimp for thinking housekeeping is hard. I just wish I could find something that I enjoyed doing but that is why it is called a job and not a hobby. I had an idea though. I could make cheesecakes and sell them. My sister’s boyfriend is a chef at Nonnah’s in Springfield and she said that they have one woman that makes all of their cheesecakes. She said that if I got the recipe down perfect and took some into a restaurant that most of the time they respect you for your effort and will give you a job or take you under their wing. I may try to peddle them at Blue Top now that I work there. It is worth a try.

back on track or trying

It has been a crazy past couple of weeks. I have been so busy I regrettably could not get my last weeks homework done. I got down really sick and had to take a week and a half off of work. I am a lot better now and am glad to say that I am getting a new job. It is going to be hard telling my boss that I am done there but I am really excited about this new job. It is at Blue Top in Lamar as a waitress, cashier, cook, and busgirl. So now I have no days off for the next two weeks. My only two days off were Sunday and Wednesday but those are now Blue Top days. I am going to be sooooo tired! But after these first two weeks hopefully I can squeeze in a canoe trip and get everything done. I really think I am going to like this job. I have wanted to get into the restaurant business for a while now. Hopefully I could get put on as cook full time after a while. That is my plan at least and it will be awesome to get tips that way I won’t be broke all the time.
Today I was lucky enough that my boss from Super 8 called and said that I didn’t have to come in because there weren’t too many rooms needing cleaned. I finally got to sleep in. Tomorrow I have to put in my two weeks notice there and I’m not looking forward to it. I am glad I didn’t have to go to work though today because last night I grabbed the wrong end of my 420-degree curling iron. Luckily I did it with my left hand and not my right one. It hurt so bad I dropped it on the floor and started screaming obscenities. Dad who was on the couch asleep woke up to that! Woops! I felt so stupid. Could I really be more of a clutz? I think not!
Well as soon as my friend gets here from Springfield, the one I got in the wreck with we are going to get me some polo shirts for my new job.

Weekly Gossip of Lamar(ridiculous)

Okay I know that most of you all are not from Lamar or even really know very much about it but I just want to tell you all a story that happened just a couple days ago. Rumor had it in Lamar that our Sheriff, an older Sheriff, and an attorney had been arrested for “tampering with evidence.” This rumor went strong for a couple of days and there was not a person in town that hadn’t heard about it. It was even all over Facebook. People were saying that they knew about the trial for them and it was being transferred to a different county.
Well come to find out the older Sheriff that is a friend of mine has a bus route and for someone that got arrested he sure didn’t miss a day of work. There were lots of signs that told me this was just a rumor and come to find out that is all it was.
Some guy that worked at Thorco said he saw the news and said that the news said all this. Well he heard wrong or just wanted to start a rumor. The actual story was that it was Barry County and it was the prosecuting attorney and the Sheriff for tampering of funds. Wow how can something so completely different be changed into that? And I assure you those three people accused caught hell for it. All because of small town rumors. This just kind of rubs me the wrong way considering one of them was an old family friend.
The old gossip mill of Lamar is still in full swing!!

I can't keep count of the weeks anymore

It has been a long week that is for sure. My job is absolutely killing my feet. I can’t seem to find shoes that are comfortable in the least on my feet. I have tried everything from flats to Nike shox and nothing works. So I plan on going to Joplin tonight to try and find something a lot more comfortable. My boyfriend Seth is also getting some shoes for a charity dodge ball game he is playing in. I want to go so bad but I have to go to work. It makes me contemplate being sick haha. I’m just kidding. Maybe.
I withdrew from my theatre appreciation class just in the knick of time today. It seems like everything that I do lately is just in the knick of time. School was a lot easier when I didn’t have such a tiring job and I could actually sit down and concentrate on my homework. I don’t know how some kids do it. Like one of my friends, she has two jobs, drives to campus all the time and somehow still has the time and energy to go shopping for goodness sakes. Like I said I have no idea how she does it.
The heat outside is incredible it feels like its summer already. Yesterday after work I went mushroom hunting with Seth and we found one solitary morel mushroom. Seth was unsatisfied and his mushroom hunger had to be fed so he stopped off at the grocery store on the way home and bought a package of portabellas and fried those along with our one little morel. But it was the best one of them all. He showed me a crazy trick if you like to find and fry morels. You soak them in water and pour salt in it and it makes all of these little bugs fly out and die. You wouldn’t have been able to see those! The one bad part about the mushroom hunting though was that I found two ticks on me. Geez, I hate ticks! Spring is here though so that makes it a lot better.

Finally the nightmare is over:)

April 1, 2011
Well today dad came into work to bring me some food and gave me some amazing news. After we looked at the shady Mazda in Fayetteville we went by a Mazda dealership in Bentonville and I fell in love with a car. It is exactly the same except it doesn’t have the spoiler and has a few more miles one it. It also has heated leather seats and leather interior. Another perk was the premium Bose sound system. Dad told me he had told the salesman that he would take it and we are getting ready to go get it. I am so tired from work but I think I can muster enough strength to go get this car;)
April 2, 2011
We got the car and it is AMAZING! The heated seats are so nice in the mornings before work when it is cold. It drives great, even better than my last one actually. It doesn’t pull to the right at all and the tires are almost brand new. Today after work dad and I waxed it and I cleaned the wheels up really nice. I also put leather conditioner on the interior and rainexed the windows. The car looks beautiful ! Just like my last one. I love driving it again. Sorry to all that my blogs are late by a day but the way I think that I am going to blog from now on took another day to explain the full car story. I think that blogging kind of like a diary with days will work the best for me.
Today after work I got some sunshine reflectors that you put in the windshield that are really pretty. They have flowers on them and I am hoping that they save my dash as it sits up at my work. I also got a cd case that hooks on the sun visor in an effort to keep my car way more organized this time. Well I had better get some cds made for it! It feels like spring outside!!:)

car struggle 2011

March 31, 2011
Well today I get my new car!!! I really hope!!!! Dad makes the final decision and I hope that it is a yes for today. The car is a 2008 Mazda6 just like the last one only with less miles and it has been better taken care of. I also like the color a lot better it is silver and kind of gold. It will be nice to have my car back and it does so much better on gas that my spare car, a 92 grand marquis. And it is way more reliable because than the 92.
             March 31, 2011
That was my hope for the day but it is later now and I have some news. Dad was on the phone with state farm trying to get a loan for the car and they needed the vin number. Well I got online to get it and the car was gone off of autotrader. So I call the car lot and they say we sold the car. But the salesman said “I have a great Nissan Altima.” I said, “I don’t want a Nissan.” He says, “ I have a great Toyota Camry.” I say, “I don’t want anything from Japan. Goodbye.” So this salesman was going to let us drive two hours to tell us that he sold the car and try to get us to buy another one. Wow that is ridiculous! Gas is so expensive!
            April 1, 2011
I am so tired I could fall asleep standing up. The last two days I have had to go into work at six in the morning, which means I have to get up at five thirty. Last night I went to Fayetteville to look at a Mazda six to replace the one that we had our eyes on. To say the least it is kind of a piece. It wouldn’t even start when we tried to turn it on the guy had to jump it. Dad didn’t let on like he knew but it had front end damage that was not on the carfax. I guess they didn’t report it. They had spot painted the front bumper really badly. Dad also notice parts in the front of the car had been mashed a little bit which indicates that it has been damaged. I’m just kind of depressed about getting a new car.

randomness for the week:)

Well tomorrow my hair is going to have a little extra color! I am putting purple and blue in it along with my brown hair. I am a little nervous about it but I am hoping that it is going to be beautiful. My boyfriend’s sister is going to do it and she really is good at doing hair. My whole idea is to look slightly like a peacock… I know that sounds weird but I even bought a cobalt blue bathing suit to match. I am just way to excited for summer. This is kind of my way of gearing up for summer. So far to prepare I have been exercising, tanning, and now I am going to have badass hair. Hopefully!
Yesterday I rode my bike from my dad’s house to my boyfriends. That is about four and a half miles and it only took me a little bit over thirty minutes. I really thought that my legs would be way sorer but they are actually not too bad. My feet however feel like they have had a meat grinder taken to them. My job requires a lot of bending down and it always manages to pull something in the center of my foot. When I walk my foot goes numb and it hurts really bad. I think I will have to switch out my cute flats for heavy tennis shoes.
My sweet boyfriend left me his truck to use thank goodness so I may go visit my grandma for her 82nd birthday. She is surprisingly looking great for her age. She says that some days she actually does feel 80 some but others she feels like she is twenty again. That is pretty encouraging to know that even when you are really old you can still have days where you feel really young. I hope that I am a lively old bat when I get old. I’m probably going to drive way to fast, wear horribly bright colors, have blue hair, and say the most awkward and inappropriate things that I possibly can. If you are that old you have to liven things up!

Oh my what a week!!

Well so far I have figured out how the insurance works. From what I have gathered if you have a loan against the car the insurance pays off the loan and you get a new car or they write you a check. I am really lucky that I had full coverage or it would be tough luck. I am hoping to get another Mazda 6 of the same year and everything. I loved that car. I found one in Arkansas that is identical only it is a beautiful silver color. Hopefully this will be wrapped up in a couple weeks. Today I bought a part to put in my old Grand Marquis so hopefully I will have some transportation to get to work and back until I get my new car. I really do not care for my 1992 boat but I do not mind waiting a while until then.
It is getting easier to sleep now and I think that the shock of all of it is wearing off but I have to say that I didn’t realize how difficult this would be. Luckily my dad has been really supportive and wasn’t awkward when I would burst out crying every three freaking seconds. I am just really thankful that everyone has been so supportive and that my friend and I made it out all right.
I went into work today too and I was lucky I got to train a girl. It is really nice when you train because you have someone to talk to and help you work. The time passes a lot faster that way. I have to work tomorrow and then I am off on Sunday so hopefully I can get caught up on my homework! I am trying to get some done today but it is quite a workload that I need to get caught up on.
Well I just looked out the window and my dad has the Grand Marquis running so all that it needs now is its part put in and I am good to go! Here is to hoping that it runs by Monday so I can drive myself to work!!!
I also watched the news this morning and saw the earthquake that happened in Japan. It was an 8.9! I believe that they said that it was the biggest that has ever happened in Japan. They said that the major damage came from the tsunami afterwards. After watching the video of the water just rushing the cars by like they are tiny toys along with houses and what not I am really glad that I live inland! Well here is to surviving the week and getting a new car! Everyone wear your seatbelts!!!!!

Car crash 2011

Well this week I guess I can blog about my car accident that I had last night with my best friend Ashley. We were going to my dad’s house to let my dog out around ten and while we were on the way there when a group of deer ran out in front of my car. I swerved to miss them and went off into a steep, muddy ditch. The car flipped once and luckily we both had our seatbelts on. Somehow the car flipped it back over and came to a stop before we made it to a creek. I have to say that this is the scariest thing that has ever happened to me in my entire life. Today I spent my day getting the insurance taken care of and the police report as well. My dad and I also got the car towed today and all I could do was cry. I loved that car as you all know it was my paper one topic and now it is going to be scrap metal. I guess that isn’t what matters though, what matters is that we both made it out with our lives given the circumstances. This is the hardest thing that I have ever had to control my mind on. It is so stressful that before I fall asleep all I can see is us on our roof sliding really fast on our hood shooting glass and mud back in my face. It is so strange it is like I can hear it and feel it still.
Anyway I finally got some sleep and can eat food. Stress like that is just too much for a body to take. When I got out of the car my friend said that I started screaming “my car!” and then passed out in the grass. Wow that might have been a slight over reaction I mean I do have full coverage and I’m fine. It just sucks. I can’t stress enough to people how IMPORTANT seat belts are. This is my second wreck and both times I have had my seatbelt on and it has saved my life for sure. I had glass and mud in my mouth and the glass that flew back scratched and cut my face. If I had not had on my seatbelt I would say that I probably would have been ejected from the vehicle. Thank you God for being with me last night and keeping me safe.

Blog Week 7

This week is breaking me I must say. It seems like everyone that I talk to is having quite a time this week and everyone is ready for better weather. Work has been crazy! I have been working at a motel in town and I really do not think that people realize how hard of work it is to be a maid. I swear some of the things that I see on a regular basis is really making me have a stronger stomach. I feel really bad for the older women that work there that have to carry sheets and towels up the stairs to their carts. If it is this hard on me and I am eighteen I can't imagine how hard it must be on them. You don't usually think about it but stacks of sheets and towels are really heavy after a while. I must just be in a bad mood from work but I don't understand how men cannot hit the toilet bowl, I mean it is a big bowl. I am pretty sure I might do  a better job than them if I tried! It really is disgusting and it sucks to clean up. I asked my dad how this was even possible and he said that some men are just lazy....... Really..... that is just gross. That is what really ticks me off is that it is because they are lazy. The amount of body hair that is left in the showers is also what really makes this job difficult. It isn't that it grosses me out but it is hard to get it off of the tub. It kinda looks like some gorilla men went in there and ripped off their chest hair.
Sorry to all that read this it has just been a hectic week and things like than just tick a person off as their work week progresses. I am glad that we get blogs to blow off some steam after a rough week. I didn't realize until now how difficult it was to hold down a job and go to school at the same time. I guess that is just part of growing up and getting into the "real world." Good luck to all with your school work and your jobs!

News Blog Week 7

Las Vegas is a beautiful place already but I read on Yahoo that it will have something new added to its strip soon. There are plans in the making for a huge Ferris wheel that overlooks the strip and shows off how truly amazing the city is. The giant wheel is to be 500 feet tall, which would make it the third largest in the world and the largest on the Western Hemisphere. A developer won permission to construct the Ferris wheel as the centerpiece of an amusement park and retail center planned for a vacant plot of land on the strip. Five hundred feet is the maximum height that the wheel can be due to restrictions from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. The site is less than half a mile from the McCarran International Airport, where more than 35 million passengers land every year. The idea for the Ferris wheel is to offer the public “a very unique view of the Las Vegas Strip.” The financial backers of the project have not yet been disclosed but the hopes are to have it built in 18 months to 24 months.
To put its immense height in perspective the tallest Ferris wheel is the 541 foot Singapore flyer, it is followed by the 525 foot Star of Nanchang in China. Then the London Eye, that is by the banks of the Thames River, reaches 443 feet. This would put the London Eye in fourth place.
I could not imagine seeing Las Vegas from a giant Ferris wheel. I have been there on a plane and took off from their airport and that is about as much of Vegas that I have seen. If I was flying in that close to a big obstruction I might be a little worried but I guess the Aviation Administration has that covered.

News Commentary Blog

My next blog makes me laugh…. A lot! It is about a nineteen year old man that is arrested and stoops the police. Now I don’t like thieves and I don’t agree with what he was doing but how he got away for the time that he did is pretty astonishing.
The nineteen-year-old Henderson, Nevada man was arrested on Wednesday for suspicion on breaking into a nearby house. The man somehow managed to slide his handcuffs behind his back and crawl through a square-foot wide opening of plexiglass that separated the front seat from the back. While all of this was going on inside of the police vehicle the cops must have been paying absolutely 0% attention to what was going on inside of the vehicle. He then drove a total of two miles, while being handcuffed and was later apprehended on foot in between some houses he was hiding by. Authorities didn’t find the car until they used their built in GPS.
Wow this really makes me have confidence in the police departments around the United States. It seems like there is a problem when you apprehend someone and then they have their hands behind their back and you still can’t bring them to jail. It just makes me wonder what the police were doing….. eating donuts perhaps. This story was too ridiculous to keep to myself I had to share it with all of you so you could get a good laugh.

News Commentary Blog

Well I was out of things to talk about for a blog but I found one of the most bizarre articles that I have ever came across. In London an ice cream parlor plans to begin to sell a new kind of ice cream. Yes, it is organic and free range but it comes from a source that I don’t think you would expect. It is breast milk ice cream… uhhhh gross. But I will fill you in on the details first.
This ice cream concoction is called the “Baby Gaga” and it will be available on Friday at the Icecreamists restaurant in London’s Covent Garden. Matt O’Conner is the founder of the Icecreamists and he is completely confident that his take on this type of ice cream will go over well. He has priced it at 23 dollars a serving. The breast milk used to make the ice cream came from mothers that answered an online advertisement on a mother’s forum.
One of the women who donated breast milk doesn’t find a problem with doing it for a little extra cash. She also works with women that have issues with breast feeding their babies and she thinks that if people realized how tasty breast milk is that maybe women wouldn’t have a problem breast feeding their babies.
I personally find this really kind of gross. I’m not really too sure why because it is milk but the whole thing just makes me want to gag. It just seems really wrong. Unless you are a baby…..

Summer is a coming!!!!

Summer is coming lets hope smaller waistlines come with it! This year I am fully preparing for summer. It will not catch me by surprise this year. I have purchased two months of unlimited tanning and have began trying to get out of my winter slump of unhealthy food and eating just because there is nothing else to do. I am not really overweight but I would like to have a nice flat stomach for canoeing this year. I have realized that buying your ideal swimming suit is good incentive to get in shape.
The tanning kind of started off bad with the heat rash but yesterday I was informed that bronzing beds could have that affect on people. So a plain tanning bed it is for me. I was not aware though that tanning clears up any acne you might have on your face or body. I know tanning drastically increases your risk of skin cancer but I can’t resist that feeling of the heat on my skin that reminds me of summer so much.
As for the working out I have been a bit lazy on that but I looked up some exercises that I have been trying to stick to and they work wonders. A routine of fifty sit-ups and fifty bicycles will really give you a flat tummy. It was really hard at first but as the days go on it gets easier and easier. Another one that I could really use is to tighten up the thighs and butt. You spread your legs over a shoulder width apart and hold a squat for five or ten seconds at a time until you reach a minute. It sounds hard but it feels good to exercise if you can just get some inspiration going. Hence the bathing suit:)

Rant blog:( wedding catastrophe!

Well I guess this is my blog where I get to rant… I will change the names of the people but this situation really ticks me off! I had this friend her name is Honna. We haven’t really been the best of friends but when she told me she was getting married to a really sweet guy his name is Derek and he has cystic fibrosis I was a little on edge. Honna is kind of the type of girl that doesn’t really care who she hurts as long as she gets attention and what she wants at the time. So she dubbed me bridesmaid in this farce of a wedding and I was fine with it I didn’t really think it would come to be anyway.
So last weekend our friend that goes to MSU was down and we were all throwing together to get her some things that she needed. So I text Honna and say hey Ash is here you said you wanted to hang out and get that stuff, do you need a ride? She says sorry I am out of town. I though oh well she must be with her fiancĂ©. Well Ash gets to down and says she talked to Derek on Facebook and he said that she absolutely forbade him to come to Lamar even to see his parents. Honna said she wanted time to hang out with her girls, which would have been us. So I got this horrible gut feeling that she was cheating on him.
Now this was hard to decide because I knew in the back of my mind that she was back to her old ways and this guy was head over heals for her. So I text Derek and said, “Hey if you and Honna want to come down tonight you can come over to see Ash.” He said, “Honna is in town you girls have fun.” I said, “Oh I thought she was with you she said she was out of town.” Finally I had gotten it across to him that she was lying to all of us. He didn’t say much but that it worried him. I thought that was the last I would hear of it and she would just glaze over it.
I was at work and Ash calls me at ten in the morning which isn’t normal for her so I answered and she told me that one of Derek’s friends had told him that she had cheated on him the last weekend and he confronted him and she told him not to “waste his breath.” Wow is all that I can say. He will only live to be 35 if he is lucky and he spent four thousand dollars on her wedding ring. I really feel horrible for the poor guy. At first I didn’t know if I was being out of line but if I was in that situation I would really want to know so I didn’t was any of the time I had.

battling a rash with a bath:)

I didn’t realize that tanning could cause a heat rash! My friend and I have been getting ready for summer by getting tanning packages at a local salon even though it is just February! But little did I know that the tanning could give you a heat rash that makes you want to carve your skin off! At first I thought it was just the tanning lotion that I was using before I got into the bed but I used a different kind yesterday and came out red with bumps. The bumps soon got worse and finally my sweet boyfriend went to Wal-Mart and picked up some cortisone cream.
The cream really helped but the secret to soothing sore and itchy skin is with a bath that I have made up on my own. I put oatmeal, like the kind you eat in a disposable bootie like you wear when you try shoes on and let it set in the water for a bit. I also put in baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Then I put in about 4-8 tea bags of green tea and a little lemon juice and milk. After a while the oatmeal makes kind of a paste that is easily squeezed out and you can rub the little oatmeal sack on your skin. It makes it so smooth and it eases any skin irritation. The cinnamon is known to draw out toxins from the skin and in the old days people used to use it for spiritual cleaning. The lemon juice is great for blondes because it is used as a rinse and also to invigorate the skin. The tea also draws out toxins, as does the nutmeg. Egyptians used to take milk baths to soften their skin I am guessing because of how dry the climate is there.
When you get out of the bath you will smell delicious but it makes your tub a little dirty. So you have to give it a rinse and you are all good. With my new job my muscles ache and this really helps! To say the least though I am holding off on tanning for a couple daysJ

week one of new job:)

Well after week one of the new job I can gladly say that I like it but it is hard work that is for sure. You have to memorize how to do everything to the room so you do not forget anything. I didn’t realize how picky the super 8 chain was but I really like it because that is how thorough you hope a motel would be. I am glad I took to it so easy, I only had to do one day of training alone until I could do housekeeping on my own. The last day I went in I got to do the breakfast bar and I got a lot of good hours.
Here is a quick run through of the cleaning process in case you consider getting a motel around here. All of the bedding including the pillows is washed on a daily basis. The phone is wiped down with alcohol; the sink is disinfected as well as the toilet and especially the shower. There cannot be any smudges or watermarks on any of the mirrors, faucets, or windows. Towels are to be folded a certain way and all the lights are to be turned on to make sure that they work. The bed is folded a very particular way as well and the floor is to be vacuumed daily as well. We also scrub the bathroom floor and look for any imperfections in the room. To say the least the rooms are pristine.
What I really like about working there are the other employees. They are mostly middle-aged women to women a little later on in life and they are all really nice and helpful. Working there is kind of like being a part of a family environment. Everyone helps each other out and if someone needs to be covered for someone will always help you out. The man that owns it has been a friend of my dad’s side of the family forever as well. It is pretty cool that he knows all of my family and tells stories about them. I definitely don’t feel like an outsider that is for sure!

my new job!!!!

Well after a long job search I finally found one. I am now working for the super eight motel in Lamar. Today is my first day of training and I have to leave in not too long to go in. I have to wear black slacks, a white shirt and closed toed shoes. I don’t think that cleaning rooms will be a bad job because I can speed clean like no other. I am sure they will have to walk me through the rooms and show me how to do everything and I hope that I will remember it all fast.
I am a little concerned with finding things in the rooms that I do not want to clean up but I guess that is my job now. Gloves I am sure are part of work uniform so I won’t get dirty. The hotel is a really nice one. It has been renovated and the family that runs it is good friends with mine so I think everything will work out good. To be honest the reason I got the job is probably because my family is friends with them. But right now they are bustling with business because people that were traveling and got caught in the storm are taking shelter there. I am sure it will slow down after this but then there is spring break and after that the traveling season really starts up. It will be nice to have a job again and actually have money. I am so tired of asking my dad for it every three seconds. Surely it will be minimum wage but that is better than nothing for sure. I am really grateful that I found this job because I have applied everywhere in Lamar and even in Pittsburg but the economy is just not in good shape around here unless you are a gas company.
All I can say is thank goodness my nice neighbors dug us out of the three foot of snow so I could go to work and so could my dad. I am already sick of this snow but I did have some fun in it. I made a sled out of a laundry basket and tow straps and my friend and I attached it to her car and got up to 20mph on the snow. We also made forts like we were about four years old but I had never seen enough snow to make one. Well I had better continue getting ready for work. I have never had to balance a job and school before…… I am sure it will not be too bad!

Blizzard 2011!!!!!

This year I was not expecting a blizzard but that is definitely what we got. The snow is so high that it comes over halfway up our back door and you cannot open it. I have never seen snow like this in my life! I tried driving home at six in the morning on Tuesday and my little Mazda six kicked butt. It is a front wheel drive and has a traction control system, which was a huge help. But as I drove home visibility was only a couple feet in front of me and at times I had to stop completely to ensure that I could see the road. When my father and I would drive to Pella Iowa the snow was similar once you passed Kansas City but I never thought I would see conditions so similar in this part of Missouri. The snow is at least three feet high in shallow parts and there are some drifts that come up at least five feet. My neighbor has a tractor and he just plowed the snow out of his driveway but my dad just has a lawn tractor with a blade on it. I have a feeling that it is not going to work. I hope he does not have to do it by hand in this freezing weather. If he does I guess I will help.
It is so difficult being stuck inside all day. I just don’t know what to do with myself. Last night dad and I made snow ice cream and I was surprised at how good it was. I just wonder when I will be able to get out of this house and drive my car. This is the time to catch up on sleep I guess and start my paper for this class. After driving my car in these conditions I think that I may do it over the Mazda six. It is not very often you get to test you car out in a blizzard so I feel that I can really review the car.
Well I hope you all get some enjoyment out of this snow and that you are all safe if you are able to travel because conditions like this are rare and most are not used to driving on this. Every time it snows it seems like I see cars off in the ditch everywhere and it really makes me think twice before driving very fast. So drive slow and stay warm!!!!

News Commentary Blog 2

It seems to me like some people are just not meant to die. After reading the headline “Woman survives fall from 23rd floor,” my jaw dropped and I though “no way.” But “yes way” it is very true and thanks to Yahoo News I can blog about this story and you all can read it. I’m sure it will be just as shocking to you as it was to me.
In Buenos Aires an Argentine woman of 33 years jumped from the 23rd floor of the Panamerico hotel in a suicide attempt and landed on a parked taxi causing the driver to flee. It took place on Monday and she landed on the taxi, afterward she was rushed to an ICU at a local Buenos Aires hospital. The cab driver said that he got out of his parked car after he noticed a policeman looking up at the woman. He rushed to safety just in the knick of time. Miguel Cajal’s taxi was mangled by the fall the windshield and roof was caved in by the collision. "If I hadn't got out, I'd be dead," Cajal said.
There is no other explanation than it was not her time to go. It is so easy for people to die from an accidental blunt trauma to the head and this woman smashes herself on a taxi and survives. It would have killed the driver by her fall but it didn’t kill her? All I can say is that she is lucky and if the universe lets her live through that than she clearly has a purpose. Hopefully this will be a sign to her that suicide is the wrong way to go here, and hopefully she didn’t completely destroy her body. This whole situation is sad and is something that shouldn’t have happened.

News Commentary Blog 1

I am glad to have such a strange topic for my first blog of my comp two class. The headline “Burglars snort man’s ashes, thought it was cocaine.” If this doesn’t scream ridiculous I really don’t know what does. As always I use Yahoo News for my source because they have an Odd News tab and it really does have some crazy stories.
This whole fiasco took place in the central Florida town of Silver Springs Shores on December 15th. The ashes were stolen for a woman’s home and the thieves made off with an urn that contained the ashes of her father and another container that had the remains of her two beloved Great Danes. Electronic equipment and jewelry was also stolen at the same time. The burglars then snorted the cremated remains of the man and two dogs because they believed that the substance was an illegal drug. After another burglary attempt at a nearby home last week five teens were arrested in connection with the first robbery. The sheriff’s report said, "The suspects mistook the ashes for either cocaine or heroin. It was soon discovered that the suspects snorted some of the ashes believing they were snorting cocaine." After the teens realized their mistake they discussed returning the rest of the remains to the house but they were afraid that their fingerprints were on the urn so they threw it in the lake. Police divers have been attempting to recover the remains and the teens are being charged with numerous charges.
This story kind of makes me think that the teens were already messed up on drugs. They had to be out of their minds to think an urn with ashes in it was cocaine or heroine. It was also a middle-aged woman’s house for goodness sake, what would she be doing with drugs? I guess given the circumstances this story is self explanatory and the most likely conclusion I can come to is that they were desperate for drugs so they broke into the house to steal things to sell for drugs when they came across a substance that looked similar in their whacked out minds.

Hello Comp 2 Class:)

Hi,
My name is Kathleen Oglesby and I was in Comp one last semester. I am a Freshman at Southern and am working on my second semester. I hope it goes as well as the last one did. I live in Lamar which is not too far from Joplin but I prefer online rather than going to campus. I'm sure it would be a lot of fun but online leaves me with so much more time. In my spare time I enjoy sleeping and cooking good food. I have a white boxer and his name is Maverick. He enjoys spending his spare time driving me crazy and eating my headbands. His alternate name is Mr. Dog because he really does look like a gentleman when he puts his ears back. Hope we all have a great semester and get A's!
Kat:)
