battling a rash with a bath:)

I didn’t realize that tanning could cause a heat rash! My friend and I have been getting ready for summer by getting tanning packages at a local salon even though it is just February! But little did I know that the tanning could give you a heat rash that makes you want to carve your skin off! At first I thought it was just the tanning lotion that I was using before I got into the bed but I used a different kind yesterday and came out red with bumps. The bumps soon got worse and finally my sweet boyfriend went to Wal-Mart and picked up some cortisone cream.
The cream really helped but the secret to soothing sore and itchy skin is with a bath that I have made up on my own. I put oatmeal, like the kind you eat in a disposable bootie like you wear when you try shoes on and let it set in the water for a bit. I also put in baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Then I put in about 4-8 tea bags of green tea and a little lemon juice and milk. After a while the oatmeal makes kind of a paste that is easily squeezed out and you can rub the little oatmeal sack on your skin. It makes it so smooth and it eases any skin irritation. The cinnamon is known to draw out toxins from the skin and in the old days people used to use it for spiritual cleaning. The lemon juice is great for blondes because it is used as a rinse and also to invigorate the skin. The tea also draws out toxins, as does the nutmeg. Egyptians used to take milk baths to soften their skin I am guessing because of how dry the climate is there.
When you get out of the bath you will smell delicious but it makes your tub a little dirty. So you have to give it a rinse and you are all good. With my new job my muscles ache and this really helps! To say the least though I am holding off on tanning for a couple daysJ

  1. Wasn't for sure if you were going to eat that combination or bathe in it... EWWWW just the thought kind of sicks me out!! Not really sure why, but it prolly stems from the whole oatmeal bath when I would get poison ivy. I was prolly 8 or 9 and my sister still bathed with me and she ate some omg I can't eat oatmeal anymore because everytime i think about oatmeal I think of that!

  2. Kathleen,
I used to get heat rash as a kid whenever the teachers would let us go play on the play ground, not to mention I get exzema in the winter! Anyway, the cortizone cream is a wonderful product for those skin problems. I usually start tanning in March and tan until Memorial Weekend, because we always go canoeing that weekend and after that weekend beach volleyball begins. My husband and I and his HUGE gang of friends and their wives all go out to a place we like to call "Jerry's Place" (because it belongs to our good friend Jerry!) and play beach volleyball on Sunday's after memorial weekend ends. We will play volleyball all summer on Sunday's and so after memorial day I don't have to go to the tanning place anymore because we are outside all the freakin time after that holiday weekend. I might try your "oatmeal" bath sometime! I won't eat it! Promise! Does it cure sunburns? Anyway, I used to take a milk and honey bath in the winter because I have horribly dry skin. I loved this story though, you have a wonderful sense of humor. I love humorus people! I about died laughing at the part where you said it makes you want to carve your skin off! Great stuff!
By the way, in regards to the comment you left on my "Some People Don't Deserve to be Parents" blog, It does drive me crazy to hear about it and yes I do want so badly to either beat the crap outta them or call DFS or a hotline or the police, SOMEBODY! I flipped out on my aunt because she begged me not to report them. She said that she wants to move her in across from grandma and monitor the situation and if it doesn't get better then she is going to do something about it, because she doesn't want DFS coming in and taking the baby to some strangers. My aunt would rather keep him in the family if the baby can't live with Dusty, so I agreed to sit back and see what happens. It really does drive me crazy not to do something about it though, because I have a 7 month old daughter and I would protect her from anything and I just think that that poor baby needs to be protected from those monsters that are his parents. My aunt won't let anything bad happen to the little guy. I trust her. My aunt is a big favorite among all the kids in the family for a reason! She loves us all.
